ABOUT US

About the             1st SFG (A) SF Scholarship Fund

The United States Army Special Forces – America’s “Green Berets” – constitute the largest element of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).   Since the inception of Special Forces, Green Berets have led the way in all of our nation’s conflicts – and they continue to do so in the world’s most remote and dangerous areas.    Families of Green Berets, particularly their children, make enormous sacrifices for our nation’s security, enduring lengthy family separations as their parents deploy to combat and, in tragic cases, enduring the impacts of the injuries or losses of those beloved parents.

The 1st SFG(A) SF Scholarship Fund recognizes the sacrifices of these amazing children by providing merit-based, post-secondary educational scholarships to the children of current or veteran Special Forces and Special Forces Support Soldiers.

Vision

Our vision for the 1st SFG(A) Scholarship Fund is twofold:

First, we aim to raise sufficient funding each year to avoid turning away highly deserving applicants.

Second, our long term aim is to gradually build an endowment designed to provide funds for deserving students in perpetuity.

Mission

The mission of the 1st SFG(A) Scholarship Fund is to recognise the sacrifices of our unit's children who endure significant hardship during their parents' lengthy deployments to combat and other challenging missions.

Why the Special Forces Scholarship Fund was founded

The national Special Forces Scholarship Fund was founded in 2011 by several SF veterans at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), North Carolina, who saw the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by Special Forces children as their parents continuously deploy into harm's way on behalf of our nation.

These Special Forces veterans decided to develop a non-profit, charitable scholarship fund to assist these Special Forces children as they pursue their educational and vocational aspirations.

After achieving success with a pilot program for the children of the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, the group assisted the other four Active Duty Special Forces Groups, including the 1st Special Forces Group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, in establishing similar programs.

  • But for every student we are able to help, we must turn a number of other very deserving Special Forces children away... With YOUR generous support, we can limit the number of deserving kids we are forced to turn away...
